stop smoking picDespite all of the knowledge available, smoking is still one of the leading preventable causes of disease and death in the world. 
Smoking is extremely addictive, and it does not take long before you find yourself craving cigarettes.  Recent statistics show that every cigarette you smoke takes six minutes off of your life. 
This means that smoking one pack a day takes away two hours off your life.  Just imagine how many days that becomes over an entire lifetime, and you may begin searching for quit smoking aids or natural ways to quit smoking.

People should quit smoking, why? 

There are a million reasons.  Smoking affects just about every part of your body from your lungs to your heart, and even your kidneys and liver.  The biggest risks for smokers are lung cancer and emphysema.  Cigarette smoking stops the lungs from normal functioning, inhibiting breathing and damaging the lung tissue. 

Though most smoking related damage can be repaired over time if you quit smoking, emphysema cannot be reversed once you have it.  Heart disease is also a concern for smokers.  Smoking causes greatly increased risk of heart disease, especially if you are also overweight, inactive or have high cholesterol.  If you have heart disease in your family, you should quit smoking immediately to reduce your chances of a heart attack.
Smoking can also increase your risk for having a stroke, especially if you are a woman taking birth control pills.  This combination can be deadly and should be stopped immediately if you are a woman over the age of thirty.  Smoking also causes decreased circulation that can lead to blood clots, especially later in life.  It can also increase diabetic symptoms in those suffering from the disease.

There is no best quit smoking way.  However, if you are ready to quit, there are a variety of different methods to choose from that can help you along the way.  For instance, there are natural quit smoking aids, along with medication smoking stop methods.  Natural methods include acupuncture cessation smoking treatments and hypnosis.  Medications such are Wellbutrin are also known to help cut down on cigarette cravings.

There are also a variety of smoking free videos available that can help kick the habit.  There are a million tested ways to quit smoking, but the most important part of beating nicotine addiction is willpower. 
You can solicit quit smoking support from the American Lung Association.  They provide smokers with free literature, and they also sponsor support groups all over the country.  Once you realize the dangers of smoking, it becomes a little easier to quit.  You have a hard road ahead of you, but with the benefits of quitting, it becomes at least a little bit easier.
